My Cooking Journey
I’ve been cooking for over 20 years now. My mum was my very first cooking teacher. I started cooking when I was around 8 years old, beginning with simple dishes like cream-style sweetcorn pork rice. At first, she would prep the ingredients and do the knife work for me, but slowly that changed — from learning beside her in the kitchen to eventually making lunchboxes for her and cooking dinner for the whole family.
Cooking has always been a huge part of my family. We used to sell poultry in Hong Kong wet markets — traditional fresh food markets where people truly understand ingredients, freshness, and flavour. Honestly, some of the best cooks and food knowledge come from places like that.
Both of my grandmas were also amazing cooks, and I learnt so much from them growing up. I still remember one of them teaching me how to peel and mince ginger properly by hand.
For a long time, I didn’t really realise cooking was a skill. It just felt normal because I grew up around it every day. But over time, I noticed many people around my age didn’t have the same cooking experience, and friends kept asking me for recipes, cooking tips, and meal ideas.
That’s why I started this website.
I want to share authentic Asian home cooking in a way that feels approachable, practical, and realistic. This isn’t about perfect plating or obsessing over details; it’s about food that tastes genuinely authentic while still being easy enough for everyday life. I hope this becomes your menu too.
